My New Favorite Word

Ever feel worn out spiritually? Critical? No strength left? Barely any faith left?

“Where is God? And how did I become like this?”

Did something big happen? Probably not, big problems often draw us closer to God. It seems that it’s the little negative things that add up to take us by surprise.

“The straw that broke the camel’s back!”

My new favorite word is also little, but it’s so powerful in pushing aside all of those pesky little circumstances that before you know it can have you feeling so defeated! My new favorite word is “YET.”

Psalm 42:5 NIV

Why are you downcast, O my soul?

Why so disturbed within me?

Put your hope in God,

for I will YET praise him,

my Savior and my God.

Psalm 37:25 NIV

I was young and now I am old,

YET I have never seen the righteous forsaken

or their children begging bread.

Because I need God’s Word alive and active in my life - Hebrews 4:12, I like to personalize and pray scriptures that apply to my situation. In the following examples, you’ll see how my little friend YET acknowledges my circumstances, but doesn’t leave me there. It pushes my focus to Hope in God, the only place that I’ll find victory!

(My situation is really bad) YET I WILL PRAISE HIM!

(I can’t handle my present circumstances) YET I’VE NEVER SEEN THE RIGHTEOUS FORSAKEN - YOU WILL INTERVENE!

(I don’t understand what you’re doing in my life, God) YET I WILL TRUST YOU!

(It seems that you’ve left me alone, God) YET YOU ARE NEAR LORD!

(My spirit has been dwelling in the valley of dry bones) YET BECAUSE YOU ARE THE RESURRECTION, I WILL LIVE!
